Distance: Approximately 10 km (6.2 miles)
Time: 4 to 5 hours
Ascent: Around 600 metres
Grade: Moderate to Challenging
Start/Finish: Edale village (Grid Ref: SK124859 / Postcode: S33 7ZP)
Route Description
- Start in Edale: From Edale village centre, head west along the paved footpath signposted for Grindsbrook. You’ll pass through fields and over stiles before entering open moorland.
- Grindsbrook Clough Ascent: Follow the path up Grindsbrook Clough — a steep, rocky gully that involves some light scrambling near the top. Care is required in wet or icy conditions, especially on the upper sections.
- Kinder Scout Plateau: At the top of Grindsbrook Clough, you emerge onto Kinder Scout’s plateau at around 600 metres. From here, turn right (east) and follow the clear path along the southern edge, which offers wide views across the Vale of Edale and beyond.
- Return via The Nab and Ringing Roger: Continue along the plateau until you reach the outcrop known as Ringing Roger. Begin your descent here, following a well-marked path back into the valley. The trail leads back to Edale through fields and past small farms.
